They definitely work. Tested them the same day I received them. Very nice quality and weight as well. Highly recommend to buy instead of buying new hoses with them already on.

Since you cannot deliberately discharge any perceptible amount of refrigerant / oil into the atmosphere legally, how are you going to disconnect and clear your gauge hoses? With these you can shut the valves off, and then reconnect to discharge into a recovery tank, or as some do, let it be drawn into the low side of the compressor.

Saves time
These save me time and time is money. I can quickly turn off the supply of gas as needed and it really is a great product. Very well made as you would expect with the same knurls as you have on your hoses.

Versatile
I don't know that these valves are specifically vacuum rated, but I do see a lot of guys using them for evacuation and have used them for this myself at times.
