When we purchased our home, we installed a generic pet door. Living in the mountains, the wind/cold/snow can get extreme. The wind always opens the flaps, bringing the cold into our home. We looked at many different pet doors and decided to try this one. The cost was A LOT more, but I can definitely say, we have gotten our money's worth! I have just purchased another one for our next home.
The installation was a bit of a challenge but in the end, it was a success and my dogs love it!!! I no longer have to get up and down to let them in and out. It provides peace of mind, autonomy for the dogs, and more sleep for me!
Love the double flaps. Seals very well. My Frenchton had issues figuring it out at first, but does great now.
I had gotten a cheaper dog door only to have the doors get ripped off by my very hyper dogs slamming in and out of the door all day. This one has stood up to that abuse. It hasn't failed in frigid Temps which is what did my last one in. My brother installed it and he was happy there was a template that came with it. I put 5 stars on weatherproof just because my door comes out under my deck so never is really out directly in the weather. My brother is a handyman by trade so it wasn't hard for him to put in. I don't know how difficult it would be for anyone else. Having the right tools would be the difficult part.
Overall the door is really clean looking after installation. I've had other dog doors made out of plastic that are bulky and hard to clean. This door one has a metal frame that sits close to the wall about the same thickness as the baseboards. It really cost a lot more than I wanted but it is worth it and will surely last me a long time.
