For over 30 years of cutting at least five cords of firewood every Winter, I always used to hand file my saw chain in the field. Swapping a sharp chain for dull one in the field is more efficient, as is setting up my new chainsaw chain grinder to sharpen four to six dull chains in turn at one sitting, like an assembly line. Safety glasses are a must, but the grinder is fairly quiet, so no hearing protection required. After sharpening on my new grinder, I finally managed to chew my way through the stump before it dulled! Another sharpening and one final slice should get it below grade for permanent burial and end my long nightmare.
I've had this sharpener less than a week and it's already paid for itself in hardware store sharpening charges. After you do your first chain, its easy to set up and operate. The motor is whisper quiet, comfortable, safe and accurate. I mounted mine to a plank of 1" oak so that I can just clamp it quickly to my workbench and then put it away when I don't need it. You will need to know your chain specs to set the device properly for your specific chain. Totally worth the purchase if you use your saws with relative frequency.
Moved to country on 50 acres and installed an outdoor wood furnace... so, having the ability to sharpen my own chains critical. This does a far superior job to the cheaper versions. A must have if you need to be able to sharpen many chains...does all types and very accurately done.
Solid tool that does the job. I spent the $$ to get this one. It's definitely worth more than the plastic junk I had been looking. Great machine. I set mine up on a portable mount that fits in my bench vise.
It replaced a cheap electric sharpener that did an ok job, but this thing is far more accurate and heavy built. The 10 Degree pivot makes a lot of difference as well as being able to top dress the rake depth. I'm very pleased so far as I have only sharpened 8 chains.,but can notice the difference in the cut.
